History

For nearly 100 years with the same passion and one philosophy, quality.

Since 1922 a company always in Italian hands, always entirely from the same family

The beginnings

Comm.
Luigi Prevosti, a veteran of World War I where he had been wounded, began a dairy business in Varese, a city to which his family had moved from the province of Lodi: registration with the Chamber of Commerce is dated November 1922.
The factory was located at 19 Via Robbioni: a very central area of today’s Varese, practically in front of City Hall and the Estensi Gardens.
The only remaining photo of that establishment was taken on May 8, 1949 at the wedding of the Commendatore’s daughter.
Until the war period, distribution was limited to the regional level.

The postwar period

A new start was made after the war, but unfortunately in 1951 the wife of Comm.
Prevosti, Angela Mangano, who was in charge of all the administration.
In the same year his son Gianni joined the company, who would oversee the company’s growth in the following decades.
The revival of those years makes the old factory inadequate, and a new one is therefore built in a more peripheral area: in 1955 it is inaugurated in grand style and even hosts the punching of the Tre Valli Varesine with the great Fausto Coppi.

1960s

The family expands

In addition to butter production, three others were added over the next few years: formaggini, Fontal cheese, and stock cubes.
Of these three, the only one to survive with great success is that of formaggini, which became the company’s second major workhorse.
These are the years of the economic boom, and the points collection is a great success.
But the range of products offered is no longer sufficient to maintain the network of agents and salesmen created throughout Italy: hence that expansion to cheese, cream, yogurt and desserts that would characterize the company in the years to follow.

1980S

Tradition and modernity

At the beginning of the new century, Prealpi presents itself as one of the finest in the Italian dairy market.
The plant on Viale Borri in Varese still stands in the beautiful and scenic location of fifty years ago, but it is always kept up to date with the latest available technology.
Gianni Prevosti is still its honorary president, his son Luigi president and CEO, and we are now in the fourth generation in the company, represented today by Giovanni, sales manager.

A factory that never stops

Prealpi has remained one of the most resilient companies in the Italian dairy sector, having successfully overcome the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This company, founded with tenacity and dedication, decided to celebrate its triumph over the pandemic crisis through a significant renewal of its corporate image.
This dynamic logo perfectly embodies the company’s philosophy of constantly looking to the future.
In addition, Prealpi’s new products feature modern, eye-catching designs that reflect the company’s commitment to meeting customer needs and staying ahead of the market.

2023

The company has been consolidating over the years, always keeping butter as its basic product. It did not want to rest on its laurels, however, and arrived at the leadership role in an innovative and proactive way: in a traditional sector such as butter, it even comes up with seven different butters!

But it all began in the early 1920s, when a young bersaglieri officer, a World War I veteran…
